Good morning, all. It's time to chime in here and make a <insert godly voice> "POWERS-THAT BE" decision regarding rumors and posts.
In all honestly, I'm finding with the rumor mill surrounding Hard Rock Park, there are people who just want this place to tank and tank badly. They people who have been posting to Discover Myrtle Beach so far have been justified in posting what they hear, know or think they know.
The Hard Rock Park issue and all topics are a monster unto itself and unfortunate as some of the rumors may be. I have never seen this much word-of-mouth press in this town, other than this story. The ABC news ran this RUMOR story last night. It was, in my opinion, unfortunate that they chose to air it without a shread of proof.
Greg, in regards to Hard Rock Park, please allow me to make a final decision on what stays and goes. To everyone else, you may be wondering why I have not addressed certain stories, rumors, ride decisions, event-not-happenings, etc. To everyone I say this:
Because of my employment with Hard Rock Park, it has become an extremely fine line for me to report on some things related to the park. You will notice that ANYTHING released through DMB is only "Official" releases or something that is out there that the public can plainly see (a.k.a. the Paradise City Sign). While I could have posted that photo two weeks ago, but choose not to.
1. For obvious reasons, I can not get involved in releasing ANY information the company doesn't want released yet. That may go for ANYTHING as little as a new menu item.
2. I can not make it appear I am confirming or denying information that is even out there by other venues. So let's use an example. NEW RIDES. Have I read the rumors of a possible new ride? Of course. But how can I comment on it with it making it sound like I'm telling everyone yes it's happening or no it's not. To some, every word that comes from a representative of Hard Rock Park will be gone through with a fine-tooth comb. It could lead to more rumors good or bad.
3. ANYTHING you see releases through DMB is either "Officially Released News" or something I am allowed to release. Period.
I don't like rumors because they bring extremely bad results, especially the situation from yesterday. The Sun News has allowed HORRIBLE, outright DISGUSTING posts to be placed about the park. That is their choice. Here, I won't allow the hurtful stuff, but basic rumors from the people we have here so far have been tame in comparison and while I don't like a couple, I know the people who are placing it and they are not doing it just to see the park fail. They like the place, for the most part and are giving an honest opinion.
DMB is a company with a public board. We can edit or delete posts how we choose, but we must be responsible enough to admit we put this up as a PUBLIC board and should not censor things we may not agree with. Hurtful towards a member, yes. Vulger, yes. Rumors that are completely intended to do harm, and nothgin more, absolutely. But so far, this is what people are talking about. So, <insert godly voice again> "GO FORTH CHILDREN. Keep it honest. Keep it clean."
Raymond I understand your position, but you are also in a position that none of us are in, and people get curious. You know better then most how the internet works, I think in my opinion the park needs to be more open with the community and the internet.
We still don't even know about a Halloween event, is it canceled still going to happen?
The rumors that are going about the park are bad, and have got me worried. Why is the park staying so quite? It seems like if there were rumors released about my company I would out there addressing them, espically if it's hurting my company. I am sure the park cannot address every rumor or speculation, but major ones like these should be addressed quickly.
