The Sun News is reporting the following:
A Texas-based company was lined up to buy the $400 million theme park for $35 million, but the deal fell through at 4 a.m. on Dec. 30, the date of a scheduled court hearing, according to transcripts from that day's proceedings.
That company, Marlin Atlantis, a Dallas-based real-estate developer, is looking to branch out into entertainment with experienced partners, and remains interested in Hard Rock Park, a spokesman said. On the night before the hearing, the company was poised to buy the park and to help with an additional multimillion-dollar loan to pay for administrative expenses through March.
As those negotiations were down to dotting i's and crossing t's ... we were informed at approximately 4 o'clock in the morning last night that Marlin Atlantis had elected to walk away from the deal," said the park's lawyer, Paul Harner, according to the transcript of the proceedings in Delaware bankruptcy court.
The auction, scheduled for Dec. 15, never happened.

Our Take
Now that the cat is out of the bag, we can report that the auction not being held IS true. We were advised back in December that there were several interested parties. However, we felt it best NOT report on it for the sake of the park's future. The dealing was ongoing.
At the time, a source close to Hard Rock Park stated to Discover Myrtle Beach back in December, "In short.... Competing bids, need more time to finalize and clarify and resolve all details."
Unfortunately, that particular deal fell through.
While the Sun News first line reads "Hard Rock Park almost got a chance at a comeback", this still does not mean it's the end of the park. For all you out there who see this most recent article as the last bit of hope. I have been given this quote and asked to publish it.
"The Sun News knows nothing."
This quote was given to us back in December when the Sun News originally reported that there were no bidders at the auction.
A RESPONSE ON REPORTING HRP INFORMATION
Normally, we would not respond publically certain things, but in the case of this topic, we feel an obligation to do so.
As it always has been, HRP Operations has been treated with the utmost respect, which has given us access to certain information, long before any involvement as a first-hand reporter or employee. Over the past two and a half years, Discover Myrtle Beach reported of some things and others we did not. All for good reason. While some say withholding information is not "true reporting" and just "puff pieces", I stand by what we have done to promote the park. It has obviously allowed us to bring you an unprecedented look at Hard Rock Park during construction, after its opening and during it's trouble times.
So with all the recent news, think what you will, but while the book may really be closed on the Hard Rock Park name, this is not the end of a Myrtle Beach Amusement Park just yet. You can take that to the bank (not that banks are worth anything right now). We'll have more to report. I promise.

I certainly am keeping my fingers crossed whatever the move.

Why did they pull out? I mean it would be great to have someone open it back up. If someone was to buy the park and couldnt change a lot for the 2009 season they could at least open it and charge 20 dollars a day. I mean they would pull in crowds for that price.

Im kinda glad they pulled out because those real estate companies always say "yeah we wanna try something new" but then level the whole place! I mean look at what is going on with coney island right now. I guess they realized it would take longer to level the place so they backed out...
I honestly want the park to come back but not loose its themeing. Yeah the names can go but the country thening and the london theming really do the park well!
